What Are Ragdolls?
Ragdoll cats are large animals that were bred in America. They do not have a thick undercoat like that of a Persian cat, but come with a semi-long overcoat which is soft like that of the rabbit.
This friendly cat carries a calm and pleasing expression. It is different from other cats and is said to have a personality similar to that of dogs, as they are believed to be loyal and caring towards their owners.
The Ragdoll is the ideal inside cat, because it is calm and deeply devoted to humans. It adapts also quickly to the habits and lifestyle of its family. The trait the makes the Ragdoll so special is its ability to go limp when handled - but it does this only when it feels like it! This is also how the breed got its name.
The Ragdoll is also a very dog-like cat, because it loves fetching and can be taught various tricks. No question about the dog-likeness, as it soon becomes very apparent that the Ragdoll has to take part in everything you do. Hence it is impossible to do anything alone after you have been captured by a Ragdoll: you never cook alone, never clean the house alone, never sleep alone ... hey, you are not even allowed to go the the bathroom alone! Maybe they think they´ll miss out on some fun if they don´t constantly follow at your foot
steps ...just like dogs do.
They also have so cute a habit of lying exactly where they are most in the way, on the thresholds for example, or in a place where they can observe the whole household. Basically, any place where there´s some action! It is exactly this wonderful Ragdoll personality that enchants just about anybody.
There are many of those who have patiently waited to obtain a Ragdoll kitten knowing what sweet little clowns Ragdolls are, and who, without almost any exception, have found it to be just like that and so much much more! And this is a fact.
When you talk about the Ragdoll personality with people who own a kitty of some other breed they often say the Ragdoll sounds just like their cat. But that is where they are VERY wrong as many people with both Ragdolls and some other purebred cats really do confess to the superbness of the Ragdoll breed - this said with respect to other breeds, of course, as all cats are special. Ragdolls are often just a little more special ... This can easily be tested with a Ragdoll of your own.
To make a long story short, the Ragdoll is a really beautiful, even-tempered cat with a relaxed, peace-loving personality; they are a little funny in their own way, each one a character in its own right, but always gentle and loving - a Ragdoll that is loved is a courageous little soul with tons of love to give.
Ragdolls are a large breed of cat. Ragdolls fully mature in size at around 3 years of age. Adult males may weigh 15 pounds or more. Females will weigh about 5 pounds less.
When Ragdolls are born, their fur is white. The unique coloring starts developing after a few days. It usually takes two or more years for a Ragdoll's color to completely come in.
The Ragdoll is a very intelligent and affectionate animal.
They are the most beautiful and appealing blue-eyed cats known to man. From their laid back personality and quiet voice, to their playful nature and their craving for your companionship, Ragdolls will fill your life with special warmth.
Because they have a tendency to be less stubborn than other cats, they are very easy to train and teach tricks. Ragdolls love to interact with children, other pets and your visitors.
However, these cats are also a huge contrast from normal ones. They are warm by nature and like to stay at home with their owners. They are attention-seeking animals and are known to walk behind their owner around the house, much like dogs. They socialize very easily with strangers and love to be in the company of children.
However, it is also important to remember that their nature and personality will also depend on early grooming and the experiences they have as they grow up. If this cat is brought up in a gentle and loving family, then it will have a docile and gentle nature.
Unconditional love from their owner will make a Ragdoll an ideal pet.
How To Care For Ragdolls?
Ragdoll cats are generally healthy animals and have a life span of 15 to 20 years (on average).
One should also avoid over-feeding the cat, as it may affect the health of the Ragdoll, giving rise to arthritis, liver diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, etc.
We feed our cats the finest food on the market today. We use no grain Felidae, also Premium Edge, Life's Abundance. We also use natural raw diet.
Sterilizing your Ragdoll cat will also protect it from developing certain types of cancer. Taking your pet to the vet for regular check ups and vaccinations will also ensure its overall, general well-being.
Grooming these cats is not a very difficult task. They do not tend to shed as much as other breeds of cats. Although their soft, plush coat may look like a lot of work, it is actually very easy to care for and requires a weekly grooming. This will help control any shedding or fur-balls and most Ragdolls adore being combed and brushed.
If you are planning to take home a Ragdoll cat, it is important to do research and choose a good and authorized breeder.
